If you are an artist or just like art, or if you are looking for a neighborhood full of rich culture and excitement, then Coconut Grove Condos for sale in Coconut Grove, Florida may be just what you desire. Coconut Grove is located in the City of Miami, Florida in Miami-Dade County. The region is often referred to as “The Grove”. The climate is typical and the palm trees are abundant. The population is around 17,800.

This lush tropical village was settled in 1834 by Bahamian seamen. Horace P. Porter named it Cocoanut Grove in 1873 when he established its first post office. It is considered to be one of the oldest and most important settlements in Florida because of its location on the edge of Biscayne Bay. Coconut Grove is an oasis of massive banyan trees and tropical flowers, and is located 3 miles from Miami.

Coconut Grove condos for sale nowadays are sure to be located near interesting and beautiful historical landmarks. The James Deering Mansion, known as Vizcaya, was built in 1916 and resembles a 16th century Italian country villa. There are 34 rooms filled with 15th to 19th century antique furnishings and European decorative arts. A 10-acre formal garden borders Biscayne Bay. The property is sometimes referred to as the “Hearst Castle of the East”.

Pioneer Ralph Middleton Munroe built his home in Coconut Grove in 1891. This house, overlooking Biscayne Bay, is known as The Barnacle, and is now a state historic site. It is one of Dade County’s oldest homes still in its original location. A special forest called tropical hardwood hammock surrounds this historic estate.
Another sight you may visit from your Coconut Grove condo is The Kampong, former residence of botanist Dr. David Fairchild and his wife Marion, who was the daughter of Alexander Graham Bell. The 10-acre garden contains many rare and unusual plants, flowering trees and tropical fruit cultivars brought to Coconut Grove by the Fairchild’s. Catherine Hauberg Sweeney purchased The Kampong from the Fairchild’s in the 1960s. She later gifted the property to the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
Coconut Grove condos intermix with new homes, 1920’s houses and beautiful waterfront estates. The brick-lined streets are shaded by fragrant hibiscus and jacaranda. There is an excellent full service hospital, lovely parks, 3 yacht clubs, a US Olympic sailing center and several world-class marinas, making Coconut Grove a boater’s paradise.

Whether your Coconut Grove condo is located inland or overlooking Biscayne Bay, you will have easy access to the airport, downtown, the Port of Miami, Metrorail, and all major roadways. Shopping is abundant, with two large open-air malls, CocoWalk and Streets of Mayfair, as well as many street shops and funky boutiques.

Thriving artists own many of the Coconut Grove condos. The community is world-renowned for its annual art festival. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival attracts over 150,000 people every year to view the works of over 330 of the finest artists and craftsmen in the world. Visitors have the opportunity to meet and talk to exhibiting artists, enjoy live entertainment and sample fine cuisine. The Coconut Grove Playhouse also attracts stars from stage and screen to take part in its productions. It is one of the finest regional theaters in America, showcasing Off-Broadway dramas, comedies and musicals.

Another popular event in “The Grove” is the King Mango Strut, which began as a parody of the Orange Bowl Parade and has continued for 24 years. This event features impersonations of politicians, royalty and prominent news personalities. The event was created by Glenn Terry and the late Bill Dobson after a group of Coconut Grove residents known as the “Mango Marching Band’” were denied entry into the Orange Bowl Parade due to “unsuitable instruments”, such as kazoos and conch shells.

Coconut Grove is known as Miami’s Food Court because of its large variety of restaurants. Most are within walking distance of your Coconut Grove Condo. Open-air cafes are consistently frequented in the year-round warm temperatures. There are several well-known chain franchises. French bistros and restaurants featuring Cuban, Argentine, and Spanish cuisine are quite popular. It is also possible to enjoy South Florida’s world-famous stone crabs year-round while overlooking beautiful Biscayne Bay. Taste of Grove is a weekend event held every year in January. Local restaurants promote their specialties while various Jazz performers entertain diners.

The fun does not end after dinner. Coconut Grove is home to numerous nightclubs and bars. If you prefer a movie, there are 16 first-run cinemas located in Mayfair and CocoWalk.

Now that you have decided that this is the location for you, it is time to look at some of the Coconut Grove condos for sale. Coconut Grove condos are available in a wide price range. There are studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and even three bedroom condos.

Most Coconut Grove condos have one bathroom. More expensive Coconut Grove condos have two bathrooms and sometimes a partial.  The buildings that house the condos range from a few floors to towering skyscrapers. Some feature glass architecture, others are more traditional. Central air and heat are common.

Other options to consider when evaluating a Coconut Grove condo for sale may include the pool facilities, spas, attached parking, golf courses, balconies and the type of flooring. Check the maintenance fees to make sure they match the amenities. Is a fancy gym worth an extra $200 a month?  Will you really benefit by a communal party area? How much are the property taxes?

A good view may be important to some, while convenient walking distance to restaurants, shops and entertainment may appeal to others. Someone who has retired may like the early morning sun shining on a southeast-facing unit. Someone still employed may prefer a southwestern exposure to catch the late-day rays.

Whatever your decision, your Coconut Grove condo should prove to be a wise investment. Time and effort will make it a home. The community will provide entertainment, friendship and a taste of rich Florida history. Enjoy it!
