The Miami Condo Market
The government, during the thirties, took advantage of the highly strategic location of Miami and built many training, supply and communication bases in and around Miami. Many of the service men and women actually returned to live in Miami after World War II. Some communities were founded by these veterans and keep a highly patriotic culture to this day.
Following the 1959 revolution that unseated Fulgencio Batista and brought Fidel Castro to power, Cuban exiles began traveling to Florida en masse. In 1965 alone, 100,000 Cubans packed into the twice-daily "freedom flights" between Havana and Miami. Later, the Mariel Boatlift of 1980 brought 150,000 Cubans to Miami in a single flotilla, the largest in civilian history.
Since then, the Latin and Caribbean-friendly atmosphere in Miami has made it a popular destination for tourists and immigrants from all over the world, and the third-biggest immigration port in the country after New York City and Los Angeles.
Today there are sizable populations of various international origins living in Miami. Many seek Miami condos for their residences.
In recent years, Brickell has come to the forefront of international business and luxury living. Desire for waterfront property and Brickell's emergence as Miami's cosmopolitan center have encouraged considerable development and even grander plans for the future. Certainly the significance of being the second largest booming international financial center in the United States will further stimulate Miami's entire downtown area and lure new residents and business alike.
Now the Free Trade capital of the Americas the Brickell area is host to 64 consulates, 29 international chambers of commerce, and 21 foreign trade offices all which occupy a fraction of over 5 million square feet of office space. All is flanked by an unprecedented Miami condo development expansion.
Situated close to the port of Miami and Miami International Airport, which services more international flights than any airport in the Western Hemisphere, the city is within minutes of two major global ports of entry.
Now a popular tourist destination, Miami adopts yet another one of its many nicknames, "The American Riviera."
