Miami Vice: The Boats
Miami quite obviously borders the ocean. All the prime Miami Real Estate owners have luxurious boats awaiting them on the docks along the coastline. As part of his cover, Sonny Crockett lived on a 42 foot Endeavor sailboat, named the ST. Vitus Dance. His neighbors all knew him by his undercover persona as Sonny Burnett. It’s not the living quarters of Sonny that we remember most though about Miami Vice. It’s the fast boats that Tubbs and Crockett used regularly to catch their criminals that we remember best. The boats used in Miami Vice are no exception to the ostentatious nature of Miami’s drug scene. As many of Crockett and Tubbs’ targeted criminals tried to elude them via the ocean, a rocket-fast boat was required to keep up with the fleeing drug lords. In the first season, the fast boat of choice was a 39 foot Chris Craft Stinger. But, for the remaining seasons, the fast boat was a 38 foot Wellcraft Scarab KV, equipped with two high-power 8.2 Mercury engines offering a capacity of over 840 horsepower. A limited run of ‘Miami Vice’ edition Scarab KVs was made available by Wellcraft for sale to the public in the same color scheme as the boat on Miami Vice. This way, all those macho men could adorn their pastel suits and loafers with no socks and go boating Vice-Style. |
