Don Johnson

Don Johnson played Miami Vice’s James “Sonny” Crockett. The character of Crockett was portrayed as a former college football star, and a 10 year veteran of the Miami Vice Department; a hard-line, by-the-book cop with an obvious disdain for criminal activity and drugs. He has an elaborate cover including fast cars, fast boats, and a sailboat which he lives on with his pet alligator named Elvis.

Crockett wore those oh-so-stylish clothes which burst on to the fashion scene with the inception of Miami Vice. Crockett made popular Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, pastel color suits and shirts, breezy linen pants, espadrilles and loafers with no socks, blazers over t-shirts, three day stubble and no belts that were widely popular throughout the rest of the eighties and early into the nineties.

Crockett was the epitome of macho for ladies around the globe with the widely spreading fame of Miami Vice. His rugged good looks, even with the unshaven face had women swooning everywhere, and men trying desperately to keep up.

Crockett was guilt-ridden over the break up of his marriage and caring for his six year old son, with his single-minded polar opposite partner, Ricardo Tubbs.

Crockett and Tubbs took to the streets of Miami busting up coke deals and criminals, often resorting to violence to get their point across. Up to the eyeballs in a city built on corruption, prostitution, gambling, money laundering and drugs galore, the pair of detectives took it upon themselves to clean up the streets.

Crockett was lavish, his dress, his cars, his boat, his gun and even his watch played up the part to the nines. And Don Johnson loved every minute of it.

“I wore a variation of my Miami Vice clothing long before I did the show,” said Johnson in an interview.

”I figured a t-shirt, jeans and a sport coat were right for anything short of meeting the queen.”
