Ricardo Tubbs-Polar Opposite Partner

Sonny Crockett’s partner, Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs was played by Philip Michael Thomas and was portrayed as a single-minded perfectionist partner, and polar opposite to Crockett. Tubbs was a former New York detective who arrived in Miami to avenge the death of his brother, and took some advice from Crockett to pursue a career in southern Florida law enforcement.

This unlikely duo spent their 5 seasons fighting top-of-the-line crime in Miami, busting up coke deals, prostitute rings, money laundering schemes and gambling. The two together seemed to single handedly attempt to clean up the streets of Miami! Tubbs and Crockett went well together, like cookies and cream, no pun intended either, as Tubbs was your typical black man playing partner to a sexy, ruggedly macho middle-aged white cop.

Tubbs often poses as Ricardo Cooper, a rich, out-of-town buyer with Crockett serving to broker his deals with criminals to set them up for arrest.

Tubbs’ outfits were as equally lavish as Crockett’s, setting the style and tone for the series. Cool and vibrant colors looked good on Tubbs’, lending to his bold and sassy nature.

So who was Tubbs and what did he stand for?
